Applicants must:

  • Held a class 1 full licence for more than 6 months prior to enrolment
  • Be over 18 years old
  • Possess a recent DL9 medical certificate that has been obtained no later than 60 days at the commencement of this course.
  • Be physically fit.

There are no course material costs associated with this micro credential.

 

Micro-Credential Aim

The aim of the Class 2 Licencing and Forklift (F Endorsement) Micro credential Level 3 is to provide learners with the opportunity to gain a Full Class 2 truck and Forklift Licence (with F Endorsement).  

It is suitable for individuals who have held a New Zealand Class 1 Drivers Licence for more than six months and are seeking or transitioning into employment in a driving role in the Manufacturing, Transport and Logistics industries.

 

Course 1: Powered Industrial Lift Truck (forklift) and F (forklifts) Endorsement:

  •  The safe operation of a forklift
  •  Operating parameters of a forklift
  •  Environmental conditions
  •  Checking and reporting
  •  Legal requirements relating to the driving of a forklift on a road
  •  Driving procedures and general considerations for driving a forklift safely on a road with a load and without a load
  •  Environmental factors affecting the safe driving of a forklift on a road
  •  Pre-operational inspection and start up procedure for a forklift
  •  Practical forklift skills for Powered Industrial Lift Trucks (Forklifts)
  •  Park and shut down a forklift
  •  Procedures for driving a forklift safely and legally on a road

 

Course 2: Fatigue Management and Work time Rules

  • Causes and symptoms of fatigue:-
  • The effects of fatigue on driving performance:
  • Life management skills that can be implemented to prevent fatigue
  • Work-related measures that can be implemented to prevent fatigue
  • Work time requirements and penalties prescribed by legislation
  • Management of driver logbooks as consistent with legislation

 

Course 3: Class 2 Full Truck Licence

  • Driving a Class 2 Truck
  • Vehicle Loading and load stability
  • Engine, Gears and Brakes
  • Road Hazards
  • Driving Emergencies
  • Checking of documentation
  • Checking of vehicle's systems and equipment
  • Carrying out pre-use walk-around inspection of a rigid vehicle
  • Drive a Class 2 Truck efficiently in different traffic and road conditions.
  • Manoeuvring a Class 2 Truck in reverse
  • Parking, shut down and securing a Class 2 Truck
  • Completing driver logbook entries

 

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Apply safe operation of a forklift within the context of accepted industry practice and workplace procedures 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the legal requirements, driving procedures, general considerations and environmental factors relating to the driving of a forklift on a road 
  • Operate a powered industrial lift truck (forklift) safely and according to accepted industry practice, manufacturer's specifications and legislation. 
  • Implement life management and work skills to prevent fatigue in the context of driving 
  • Apply work time requirements prescribed by legislation 
  • Manage work time records contained in driver logbooks 
  • Recognise hazards and explain measures to reduce hazards risk when loading, driving and parking a Class 2 Truck   
  • Safely and efficiently operate a Class 2 Truck in a variety of roads and in different traffic conditions

 

Unit Standards assessed in this programme are: 

  • 24089    Demonstrate knowledge of fatigue management, work time, and driver logbook requirements  
  • 17574    Operate a rigid vehicle to meet the requirements for a full Class 2 driver licence  
  • 10851    Operate a powered industrial lift truck (forklift)  
  • 18496    Demonstrate knowledge and skills for driving a forklift on a road for endorsement F (forklifts) 
    Total of 21 credits at Level 3.

 

English Language Capability: 

This Micro-credential is taught in English, so learners need to be able to read and write in English. Learners existing English Language proficiency will be determined by:

  • Learners' academic achievements both from secondary and tertiary education as stated in the Enrolment and Training Agreement Form.
  • The completion of On Demand Training's Road Code test as part of the enrolment process.

The target group of learners for this Micro-credential are individuals who have held a New Zealand Class 1 Drivers Licence for more than six months and are seeking or transitioning into employment in a driving role in the Manufacturing, Transport and Logistics industries.  This micro credential is not open to international students.

 

Qualification complete as part of this programme.

Class 2 Licencing and Forklift (F Endorsement) (Micro-credential) Level 3 - 21 Credits

Note: ODT is a NZQA registered PTE and the award is an NZQA Award for a Micro credential.

All training for this Micro-credential will be held at 171 Weymouth Road Manurewa.
